Top Factors to Consider when Relocating to the North of Boston Suburbs
Relocating is oft-cited as one of life’s most disruptive events. In fact, many studies cite moving as the third most stressful life event, after the death of a loved one and divorce. Although moving is a time of transition and change, relocating doesn’t have to be rife with uncertainty and upheaval. By doing some research upfront, you can ensure the relocation process goes smoothly. Embark on your next chapter and make a fresh start in the town that’s best for you by taking the following factors into consideration:
Affordability/Cost of Living– Wages, employment and cost of living are three factors that will tell you how far your dollar go in the town(s) you are considering moving to. Home prices vary from town to town, so compare the properties in the towns you are interested in to determine if changing zip codes will enable you purchase a larger home.
Jobs– Are you relocating due to a new job? Or will you begin job-hunting once you arrive in your new town? If its the latter, you will want to ensure the area you are moving to has a strong job market. In addition, be sure to research whether the city you are moving to has career opportunities in your chosen industry.
Housing– Will you be purchasing a home? Or will you initially be renting a home or an apartment? Take stock of your and your family’s needs for your new home and be sure to provide your real estate agent with your list of must-haves for your new home. The more information you provide your realtor with upfront, the greater the likelihood you’ll find the right home in your new town.
Your Commute- Once you find a home or apartment you are interested in, visit the neighborhood at different times of the day and on different days of the week. Also, if you have already secured a job in your new area, try driving to and from the home to the office, during the times of day that you will be commuting to get an accurate sense of your typical drive time.
Demographics– Familiarize yourself with the demographics of the area you are moving to. Population, median income, diversity and additional information is readily available online.
Schools– If you have school-age children and are moving, then learning about the area’s school systems is one of the top priorities to consider. Check out how the various area school districts rank on websites, such as SchoolDigger.com.
Activities and Recreation– Is living in close proximity to a golf course important to you? Or is having an ice-skating rink or indoor soccer stadium nearby a priority for your childrens athletic pursuits? Consult the towns chamber of commerce and/or recreation department to learn more about the facilities in the area.
By assessing your priorities and conducting some research, you can find the home thats right for you in the town that suits you best.
