That’s right folks, it’s time to flip those calendars to June, which means that the summer season here in the Boston area is almost upon us. Summer is the perfect time to spend some quality time with the family. Massachusetts has a number of things you can check out this summer while the kids are out of school and the weather is finally warm.

The Butterfly Place

The Butterfly Place in Westford, Massachusetts, is a garden that is filled with beautiful butterflies from all over the world living in their natural habitat. In addition to the free-flying butterflies, you will also get to learn more about their complex life cycle in several unique exhibits. The look on your kid’s face as they see butterfly eggs and cocoons for the first time will be absolutely priceless.

Go Whale Watching

One of the best things about the North Shore region of Massachusetts is its proximity to the ocean. While there are a lot of fun things you can do at the ocean, none of them are as memorable as whale watching. There are currently several boating companies in Gloucester that charter whale watching trips every day. This is the perfect activity for the whole family because everyone will be amazed and excited the first time they see a whale jump out of the water.

Wingaersheek Beach

Wingaersheek Beach is another beautiful beach running along the Annisquam River and Ipswich Bay. A great feature of this beach is how far it extends out at low tide sometimes reaching hundreds of yards.  Wingaersheek Beach also has a great sandbar that is exposed and makes for a terrific place to walk. The beach is situated in the western part of Gloucester at the end of Atlantic Street off Rte. 133 and Concord Street.

There is no better way to enjoy a beautiful day in Massachusetts than by taking the whole family to the beach. This is a great destination for the family because there are so many fun activities to enjoy. It is simply hard to beat a day of building sand castles, swimming, playing catch and relaxing in the sun at the beach. Some of the best beaches in the North Shore region of Massachusetts are Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Singing Beach in Manchester-by-the-Sea and Crane Beach in Ipswich.

Ravenswood Park

Ravenswood Park in Gloucester is easily one of the most picturesque locations in the state of Massachusetts. There are over 10 miles of paths located in the park that are perfect for a short walk or hike. You will also be able to take a break nearly anywhere in Ravenswood Park for a wonderful picnic lunch and bird watching session with the family. In addition to the bird watching, there will be several opportunities to see wild frogs, salamanders, and shrimp in the vernal ponds.

The Discovery Museums

The Discovery Museums are three distinct museums located together in Acton, Massachusetts. The Children’s Discovery Museum features 10 unique exhibits that are perfect for small kids. The Science Discovery Museum has eight rooms that will teach children of all ages about math, engineering, and science using hands-on exhibits. Discovery Woods features a huge outdoor tree house that every child will instantly love. You will also get the chance to observe nature at the rain garden, bird village and conservation trail. There is simply nothing better than letting your kids play and learn at the same time.

These are just a few of the many great activities to check out this summer. If you are interested in learning more about living and playing in the North of Boston area, contact us today!
