Family-Friendly Summer Events in the Greater Boston Area
Summer is almost here, so it’s time to start planning outings for the whole family. From whale watching to baseball games and more, summer in the North of Boston area is bustling with activity. Here’s a list of sumer events your whole family will love.
Boston Red Sox
Did you know that Fenway Park is the oldest stadium in the country? Watching any game here makes you a part of history, and there is quite the lineup this summer. The Sox always put on a good time, and often have themed games to make it even more fun. Whether you’re a diehard fan or just looking for a way to spend time with your family, attending a Red Sox game provides an excellent opportunity to get outside.
The Museum of Fine Arts
The Museum of Fine Arts is the perfect place to spend a day with the family–there’s always an interesting exhibition and opportunities for children to get involved in the art world. This summer, kids will love the Endless Feast exhibit, where artist Rhonda Weppler has created a surrealist installation alongside children from ten Community Arts Initiative partners. The MFA also hosts the largest collection of Monet outside of France, which families can enjoy year round. Traveling exhibitions are aplenty and include: (Un)Expected Families, Mark Rothko: Reflection, Candace Breitz: Love Story, and many more.
Whale Watching
The New England Aquarium takes families on a fast-paced adventure to the Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary. The rich feeding area provides a playground for many species of whales, including humpbacks, finbacks, minkes, pilot whales, and the endangered right whales. Tours are offered daily with trips leaving hourly starting at 9am. The whole family will love watching whales frolic while learning about these incredible animals. Afterward, enjoy an afternoon at the New England Aquarium, where your children can watch fur seals frolic with their trainers, interact with marine wildlife, and learn all about their favorite sea creatures.
Stone Zoo
The Stone Zoo provides endless opportunities for education and amazement. With ten exhibitions and a plethora of educational programming, the Stone Zoo is an excellent way to get the family outside, active, and learning. In June, families will be treated to a new exhibit. The Caribbean Coast is a four-million dollar habitat that will immerse your family in the sights, sounds, and even smells of this diverse ecosystem. Families will be able to feed the flamingos, play on native percussion instruments, and more!
This list represents just a few of the wonderful activities available for your family this summer.
