The Boston Marathon 2025
The Boston Marathon—one of the city’s biggest annual events and often called the “Patriots’ Day Race”—draws nearly 30,000 elite athletes from around the world. The challenging course, known for its rolling terrain and the infamous “Heartbreak Hill,” tests even the best runners.
This year’s race takes place on Monday, April 21. While the winners finish in just over two hours, many participants continue running for hours, giving spectators plenty of opportunities to cheer them on from anywhere along the route.

Patriot’s Day Reenactments, Parades, and Events 2025
When: Most events take place from Saturday, April 19 – Monday, April 21, with additional celebrations throughout April.
Where: Boston’s North End, Lexington, Concord, and other historic locations.
Cost: Most events are free.
Observed annually on the third Monday in April, Patriots’ Day (April 21, 2025) is a Massachusetts state holiday commemorating the battles in Lexington, Lincoln, Concord, and present-day Arlington (formerly Menotomy) that ignited the Revolutionary War.
